Dear Friends,
Welcome to The MBC's 2nd quarterly newsletter for 2021. We hope you enjoyed a safe and happy summer!
A lot has been going on since our last update to you. Schools have resumed in-person and our Beyond Trauma: Youth Music Therapy - Andie Koplik Residency in Music Therapy programs have already begun to have an impact on our students. The kids have been excited to return to school to work with our music therapists in New Haven and New London. They’ve been sharing heartwarming stories of progress, as evidenced in students' feelings after music therapy sessions, which are quite positive. You will read more throughout this newsletter.
We are also planning our end-of-year, holiday fundraiser. The event will take place on Saturday, December 4th at the Mohegan Sun Arena for the holiday Pentatonix concert. Thanks to the generosity of The Mohegan Tribe, we have access to a private skybox, donated to The MBC for this event. The evening will include a holiday reception in the skybox, where guests will enjoy a magical holiday concert by the Grammy winning group, Pentatonix. Information is available on our website, and we hope you will join us.
Our Advisory Council has also been hard at work, developing The MBC's new strategic plan -- one of the goals we have achieved is the establishment of The Legacy Society, and new ways to support The MBC. More information is included in this newsletter.
Given that this is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, it is fitting to note the tragic headlines concerning the death of Gabby Petito. Her violent death is one of many that occur each and every day. Our hearts break for her family and families like hers across the country and globe. You will read about recent important legislation on violent partner crime in this newsletter.
Sadly, The MBC lost a long-time, very dear friend this month, Alan Kalter. Alan was the announcer for 20 years on the David Letterman late night show. He and his wife, Peggy, have been supporting The MBC since our inception, attending our Connecticut events and bringing smiles to all our guests. Our love and sympathy go out to Peggy and their family. We will miss him.
Thank you for reading our update and for your continuing support and recognition of our efforts. I wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season!
Best wishes,
Jackie
